Schools

This village center is home to the Garden City high school, which earned the National Blue Ribbon School award in 2017. This award honors high-performing schools. Garden City High School's magazine is also a highlight of the area as it was recognized as a magazine of excellence by the National Council of Teachers of English in 2022. Village Center includes various private schools, such as the Waldorf School and the nationally-ranked Adelphi University.

Transportation and cost of living

Residents across Garden City typically utilize their personal vehicles, public transit buses, or one of the multiple rail lines available when going through the village, commuting to work, or heading out into bigger cities such as Manhattan. Being only 20 minutes from JFK airport, having access to the Nassau Inter-County express bus line, which serves all of Nassau Country, and train stations like Long Island Rail Road, you'll find it relatively easy to get around no matter your destination.

Being a well-known affluent area, Garden City has a higher cost of living than the national average. But, the reasons for this, such as higher utility bills, are correlated with the fact that the houses throughout the village are much bigger than average. Therefore, they cost more to maintain. Still, with all the things Garden City has to offer, the above-average salaries of most residents allow them to immerse themselves into this village community regardless of the more elevated cost of living.

Real estate

Across the various neighborhoods, the typical Garden City real estate consists of larger single-family homes and high-end apartment buildings. The West and East ends are considered more family-oriented areas of the village, with the west end also seeing less traffic and newer homes.

The southeastern part of Garden City presents a longer commute for most but is also said to see a trend of growth in real estate value over time more than in other areas. Garden City South is considered the more vibrant area, full of culture and entertainment. With an overall charming community, breathtaking views, and Colonial and Tudor-style homes, you will find yourself quickly infatuated with Garden City.
